Writing iPad Inspired Lessons

This is an excellent post written by Lisa Johnson on May 18, 2011 on her blog Techchef4u. Make sure you check out her blog. This is what the rest of us have been waiting for. Lisa has put in a lot of time, energy and hard work creating some really clever lessons that incorporate ipad apps. She has obviously thought long and hard about the outcomes of each of the lessons and therefore selected

Another Top 10 List Dominated by iPad Apps for Lawyers

This week, I’ll share links to the most popular articles found here on the Court Technology and Trial Presentation Blawg. Interestingly, my first full review on iPad apps for attorneys, which covered TrialPad and Evidence, holds the #1 all-time spot, while the #2 spot is taken by an article about that article. 4 of the top 5 all-time most popular articles cover iPad apps, showing that those in

Needs for Education: Multi User iPads

Greg Swanson @ AppsineducationIf Apple were truly serious about integrating iPads into education then they need to implement an overhaul of the iOS to incorporate multi user log-ins.For the iPad to operate with ease across the board educationally then the attitude that the iPad is a purely personal device needs to be challenged. On a personal level, I will customise my iPad, making it an extension

iPad Apps Capable of VGA Output

All apps are created equal but some are more equal than others.I love the mirroring capabilities of the iPad 2. This means that a lot of prep work is taken out of the teacher's hands. They can just plug in the VGA adaptor and mirror their iPad screens on a data projector or HDTV.But what of the guys who were early adaptors. The original iPad did not have this function and they have been trying to

Create a Bibliography by Taking a Photo

Problem:How many times have you had to send a student back to complete a proper bibliography for an assignment or project. How many of your struggling students do not understand the correct bibliography process. Students can not see the need for bibliographies but lose marks because it has not been done correctly. Many school even have a cover sheet that the students sign to say that the

iCab Mobile: Fullscreen Video and Browsing From iPad HDMI

This app has excellent uses in education and more specifically in the classroom. I can think of a dozen reasons why this would be useful to a teacher. The offline tabbed browsing and file download features are really good but the ability to share your iPad screen over a HDTV is what really opens this app to the education sector. This is especially true for those schools that still do not have

As teachers one of the most important aspects of our day is the way that we present information. It does not really matter what our pedagogical philosophy is, at one point or another during the day we all need to present. If we are going to use the iPad in our classroom shouldn't we be modelling to our students the appropriate apps or presentation tools. We have earmarked 15 Presentation Apps for

Court Reporters, Legal Videographers a Thing Of the Past?

With a budgetary crisis looming, the courts have been looking for ways to save money, and court reporters are on the hit list. While digital recording systems, such as the “FTR,” by ForTheRecord, are being used by many courts, the resulting audio file is of little value to an attorney needing to quickly locate where something was said – assuming you can get a copy in a timely manner. In order to

It's the Pedagogy, Stupid: Lessons from an iPad Lending Program

This is an interesting and honest account of starting an iPad program at the University of Cincinnati. It was envisioned that they could generate interest in using cutting edge technology by getting it into the hands of the lecturers and students. It was not the educational ground breaker that they expected but it had a number of very unexpected and positive outcomes. Enjoy the journey as

LegalTech and a Few Cool iPad Apps

LegalTech West Coast 2011 was a lot busier than the past couple of years, according to several people I spoke with – I did not attend last year. I did notice the Exhibit Hall seemed both busy and noisy. Although I had a full pass, I was able to only catch both Keynotes, and Tuesday’s Plenary Session. Tuesday’s Keynote featured David Pashman, Legal Team Leader from Meetup, Inc. Meetup is sort of

Soundnote: Multimedia Note Taking on iPad

This is essential just the advertisement for Soundnote but it is the type of App that many teachers could see their students using. It is about connecting their notes with images and the audio. For many students it is the audio or the graphics that are connected to their notes that are the important memory devices, this tool allows you to combine all three. This would be great for lectures,

6 Reasons Tablets Are Ready for the Classroom

This is an excellent article written by Vineet Madan. He is Vice President of McGraw-Hill Higher Education eLabs, so you would expect him to be making some big predictions, but instead he travels the road of reason and makes a number of solid assertions about both consumer use and the benefits of the iPad in the classroom. He is realistic about the problems associated with introducing the new

This is a good little app review from the guys over at igo with my ipad.If you aren’t used to doing visual mapping, even a couple dollar app could be looked at as dollars down the drain if you end up not finding it fills you need. Idea Sketch is an app we have been using on our iPhones (and Palms) for very quick and simple maps. It is now available for the iPad, and being free it might be a way

How to transfer files to and from an iPad

It’s true that you can use your iPad instead of your Mac to take care of many common computing tasks. But unless you’re ready to ditch Mac OS X entirely, you’ll still need to transfer files back and forth between your iPad and your Mac if you’re going to get work done.Unfortunately, transferring and synchronising files between the Mac and the tablet isn’t easy. There are several different ways to

Installation/Download trouble?

There are a couple issues that people run into very often on Android.  One of them is the fact that many devices have their download cache restricted, either because they came that way from the factory (such as most Samsung's) or the user has installed some kind of third party modification, such as CM7.  This can lead to downloads over a certain size failing for no apparent reason.  If you're

22 Basic but Useful iPad Tips

As many companies have discovered, you can't successfully slap a desktop operating system onto a tablet device. The iPad uses Apple's iPhone OS, which, although based on the guts of Mac OS X, was designed with a touch interface in mind. And when you're designing something from scratch, there are numerous opportunities to enhance the experience.

Now that I have an iPad in my hands, I've
